Where can I find more study resources?

Ontario Bar Exam Practice tries to provide licensing candidates with a ton of free study resources so that they can ace the bar exam come test day. But, we can’t cover everything. And so candidates should take advantage of more than just our free blog posts, sample questions, newsletter, and challenging and affordable practice exams.

Obviously, one good place to start when it comes to your bar prep is the Law Society of Ontario’s website. There, you’ll find a “Guide to Licensing Examinations” page that addresses a bunch of different issues. For instance, wondering how to ask for an accommodation? It’s addressed there. Or have a question about how the bar exam questions are made? Again, that’s tackled there. You’ll also find sample questions provided by the Law Society itself — be sure to practice with them!

Another good resource is a website put together by University of Toronto law students. It’s updated every year and contains FREE INDICES AND CHARTS that candidates can download and use. Generally, all that they ask for in return is a small donation ($10) to a legal organization. We STRONGLY encourage candidates to take advantage of the resources contained on this website. They’re updated, free, and comprehensive. In other words, in our opinion at least, they’re AS GOOD as commercial indices, but are basically free. You can’t beat a deal like that!

What about bar exam prep course websites? Should you take one of these courses as part of your bar prep? In our opinion, they’re not necessary. We say this for a few reasons. First, they’re often pricey. This puts them out of reach for many candidates, who are already having to pay for the high costs associated with Ontario’s licensing process. Second, they’re a major time commitment. You’ll likely have to take time to travel to physical buildings or attend virtual zoom calls, when this time could be better spent studying. Third, the Ontario bar exam is passable without taking them! If you review the materials and complete several challenging practice tests, you’ll be in great shape! So, in our view, it’s best to do your wallet a favour and take a pass when it comes to bar prep courses — although if you find an affordable one that you think would TRULY benefit you, then that’s fine too!

When all’s said and done, candidates who take the time to visit the websites noted above, as well as the various FREE resources and practice tests contained on this site, will have reviewed the most important resources available to them. At this point, the only thing left to do is study and practice. Yes, it sounds simple, but it’s the truth! So make sure you’re reviewing your study materials and practicing with difficult and up-to-date practice tests! If you do, our bet is that you’re going to be just fine!
