Congrats on getting the barrister exam over with!

Congratulations to all those who wrote the barrister portion of the bar exam this past week! We’re sure you all did great! And even if you don’t think it went so well…remember, you can always re-write it! PLUS, it’s totally normal to feel like you did worse than you actually did. Our best piece of advice for right now is to JUST NOT THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

Some other pieces of advice that might help you prepare for the solicitor portion of the bar exam include:

  • Trust yourself. Yes, you’re going to be nervous on test day. But you’ve read the materials, completed some practice tests, and already made it all the way through law school. Don’t let nerves get the better of you on test day. Instead, HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF!

  • If you’re stuck on question, move on. As you might have learned during the barrister exam, time moves fast on test day. And so while as tempting as it may be to spend 5-10 minutes looking for the answer to a particular question, this can end up being a recipe for disaster. Instead, the better approach is to fill in what you think is the correct answer to the question and then circle back to it towards the end of the exam if you’re still unsure. Answering every question right but only getting through 40-50% of them is not going to help you in the end.

  • Don’t leave any questions blank! This might be obvious. But you can’t get a question right if you don’t even answer it! So if time becomes a crunch (e.g., you have 1 minute left and 10 questions to answer), your best bet is to just mark down a random answer to any remaining questions. There’s a chance you may get a few of them right — even if you guessed!

  • Don’t talk to other people about the exam. There’s always going to be people out there who thought that the bar exam was “super easy”. That’s great for them, but if you’re feeling stressed about it, then it’s only going to make you feel worse. So adopt the law school exam strategy and politely tell those who want to boast about how “easy” the bar exam was that you would prefer to talk about something else.

We hope that this advice is helpful. In recognition of the importance of practice exams in preparing for BOTH the barrister and solicitor portions of the bar exam, we’ve also made our solicitor practice exam accessible for LESS than $60 for a limited time. No check out code necessary. Good luck and happy studying everyone!
